Roadworks
Some art events are seasonal. Some art events are bigger than any of us participating. And some art events are really just opportunities for organized playtime. The San Francisco Center for the Book’s annual Roadworks street festival and fundraiser is a happy example of all three – and I was fortunate enough to participate as a Personal Artist in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. There is nothing dull about using an 8,000 libs coal-powered Buffalo Springfield Steamroller as a printing press. The photos below were taken by Janna Scott & me during those five festivals. In 2020, the festival went virtual via online streaming and I was honored to be included in a panel of Personal Artists that included Erica Barajas, Danguole Kuolas, Kate Rutter, Laura Wellington and was moderated by Thea Sizemore.
