The String Paintings

The String Paintings, a body of work from 2004-2006, consist of purely abstract paintings with a quirky working method that incorporates an element of chance. The surface of the canvas is painted with brushes. Once dry, a network of strings is laid down over the surface and secured by tape to the sides of the canvas frame. Over the strings, a palette knife is used to spread a heavy layer of paint. The paint is allowed to harden just enough to allow the strings to be removed leaving their grooves as chance rushes in
